The Fifth Chapter

Jeremiah’s blubbers

has now become our moans

penned over thousands of years

or did he know we are going to bewails?

did he lamented for these days?

the lamentation, which go thus;

saying, remember , O Lord all that has be fallen us

consider and behold our reproach

our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens

we are orphans and fatherless, our mother are as widows

we have drunk our water a price, our wood is sold unto us

our necks are under persecution, we labour and have no rest

we have given the hand to insurgency and to corruption

to be satisfied with bread

our fathers have sinned and are not

and we have borne their iniquities

servant have ruled over us;

there is none that does deliver us out of their hand

we got our bread at the peril of our lives

because of the sword in the wilderness

our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine

they ravished the women in zion, and maiden in the cities of Abuja

princes were hung up by their hands

the faces of elders were not honoured

they took the young men to grind

and the children stagger under loads of wood

the elders have ceased from the gate

the young men from their music

the joy of our heart has ceased,

our dance has turned into mourning

the crown has fallen from our head

woe unto us, that we have sinned!

for this our heart is faint; for these things eyes are dim

because of mountain of zion, which is desolate

the foxes walk upon it

you, o Lord remain forever

your throne from generation to generation

why do you forget us forever

and forsake us for so long a time?

turn us back to you, o Lord,

and we shall be turned;

Renew our days as of old

but you have utterly rejected us;

you are very angry against us

to adjoin a doggerel

oh Lord we pray thee; hear our cry

Oh Lord of MERCY.
