Paul mentioned three things that Timothy should bring when he came to Troas.
(1)His cloke.
(2)His books.
(3)His parchments.
It is important to note that among these three items, the one that mattered most to Paul were THE PARCHMENTS.
How do I know that? I know that because among the three items, he specifically mentioned the word “ESPECIALLY” while talking about the PARCHMENTS.
2 TIMOTHY 4:13
The CLOKE that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the BOOKS, BUT ESPECIALLY THE PARCHMENTS.
ln contemporary parlance, the CLOKE is a pair of suit – the cloth you put on to go about your ministerial duties.
Also the BOOKS are the Christian materials written by different ministers for the edification of the Body of Christ.
Then the PARCHMENTS talk about your notepads where you pen your personal dealings and encounters with God – your PROPHECIES, INSTRUCTIONS and REVELATIONS, etc.
Now it’s important to take care of these three items – CLOKE, BOOKS and PARCHMENTS, but beloved, to be perfectly sincere with you, I can tell you from experience that THE ONE THAT THE DEVIL WILL FIGHT THE MOST ARE YOUR PARCHMENTS.
He knows that if you lose your clothes, you can walk up to a boutique and get another one. He also knows that if you misplace your Christian books, you can walk freely into a bookstore and get them back.
But if you lose your PARCHMENTS, where do you go get them without any backup except the Holy Spirit helps you to recapture them?
Sad to say, many ministers and believers are careless with their personal jottings.
God gives them PROPHETIC WORDS, INSTRUCTIONS and REVELATIONS, and all they do is to write them in a small sheet of paper and dump it somewhere.
If we’re sincere with ourselves, then we’ll admit that virtually every one of us has been guilty of this in the past.
By God’s Grace, I have about six hundred books in my personal library but I always tell people that MY MOST TREASURED POSSESSIONS IN MY LIBRARY ARE MY PARCHMENTS.
Friends, it’s important to guard your PARCHMENTS jealously, for therein lie your PROPHECIES, INSTRUCTIONS, REVELATIONS and PERSONAL DEALINGS with God.
You will need your PROPHECIES in the place of prayer when the going appears to get tough, and by them you’ll wage a good warfare – 1Tim.1:18.
You’ll need your INSTRUCTIONS when you get to crossroads in ministry and you will also need your REVELATIONS when you’re about to make decisions that will greatly impact on your tomorrow.
If we ever wondered how Paul’s teachings have shaped the Christian Faith like no other apostle’s in the New Testament, it’s because he wrote down his VISIONS AND REVELATIONS from the Lord – 2Cor.12:1, 2Pet.3:15-16,Gal.1:11-12,1Cor. 11:23.
Moses also wrote the first five books of the Bible and God also instructed Prophets Habakkuk and John to WRITE DOWN what He showed them – Hab. 2:2, Rev. 1:11.
You see, writing makes an exact man. The faintest pen is sharper than the sharpest brain.
Therefore write down your PROPHECIES, INSTRUCTIONS and REVELATIONS, for they contain your golden destiny in Christ.
Go over them again and again and be encouraged. Pray them in and internalize them by the Spirit.
Put them in your mouth constantly and put the enemy to shame. THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT SIRS AND MAS!
