Please bear in mind; the “Spirit” mentioned above talks about “The Holy Spirit” while the “Soul” implies “The Human Mind” in the context of this teaching.
Our focus and attention will majorly be on the soul or the mind. The goal is to simplify the complexities people often associate with the things of the Spirit.
Lots of believers don’t know the great and immense role that their minds play in the communication of the Holy Spirit to them.
They don’t realize that even though, predominantly speaking, the Holy Spirit gets across to our “spirits” according to Romans 8:16, but their “minds” play a significant role in picking on the frequency of the Spirit.
The Word tells us that:
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
But think about this friend; the state of your mind can either be a facilitator of or an obstacle to the communications of the Holy Spirit to you.
An unrenewed mind will be A MAJOR OBSTRUCTION to the voice of the Spirit reaching your spirit.
And the constituents of this unrenewed mind are your beliefs, your imaginations, your thinking patterns, your biases, your prejudices, your idiosyncrasies and your nuances.
If your thinking pattern or mentality tilts in a direction, especially that is in line with the truth of God’s Word, you’re likely going to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit in that direction.
If it is the opposite, you’ll most likely be insensitive to the voice of the Spirit, even though He may be nudging your heart in that direction, except He decides to change strategy, probably speak to you in a more dramatic way.
Our goal is to demystify the operations of the Spirit so that we can all take advantage of what the Lord has ordained and prepared for us.
Your “mind” really matters in discerning the voice of the Spirit and the will of God for your life.
The Bible teaches that a renewed mind is a vital tool to accomplishing this:
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Many people only read the first part of this scripture relative to the renewing of the mind and forget about the rest, but a closer look tells us that when our minds are renewed, we will then be able to PROVE (DISCOVER, DISCERN, ESTABLISH, CAPTURE) the good, acceptable and perfect will of God for us.
That’s very instructive and illuminating!!! Renewing the mind with the truth of God’s Word aids our receiving and sharpens our spiritual sensitivity the more to discern the voice of God and the will of God.
So, what you think matters. For instance, if you have a bias against GIVING, you’re not likely going to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit instructing you to GIVE.
Paradventure you hear it, it will not be as it ought to be in terms of frequency.
If you have never given to a man of God who has blessed you consistently or sown into a ministry that has been a blessing to you, check your MINDSET or BELIEF SYSTEM.
It’s not likely that the Holy Spirit has not spoken in that direction in the past, but most often, people’s state of mind serves as a major impediment from discerning the voice or nudging of the Spirit.
If you have NEVER given to your Pastor before, who labours over you day and night, on the pretext that the Holy Spirit did not speak to you, most likely your mind has not been renewed to carry out simple and clear-cut instructions of Scriptures.
Sometimes you renew your mind to a point whereby the Holy Spirit “may” not need to tell you what to do; your mind has been renewed to know the right thing to do in a situation because you simply follow Scriptural instructions.
When I go meet a man of God, the Holy Spirit does not need to tell me not to go empty-handed. My mind is already renewed in that direction.
When I’m in a meeting, and the man of God asks people to give, I don’t say something like, “THESE 419 PASTORS HAVE COME AGAIN WITH THEIR TRICKS”; my mind is already renewed along that line.
By God’s Grace, I can’t remember the last time the Holy Spirit ever told me to say “Sorry” to my wife.
He knows that my mind is renewed with the Word in that line and that I will behave like a Christian.
For some other people, the Holy Spirit will have to “appear” to them in a dream and tell them to say “Sorry” to their wives or their husbands.
And when they disobey that, the Holy Spirit will have to give it as “a word of knowledge” to a minister while ministering.
That’s how unrenewed people’s minds can be. The Bible says in the Book of Job:
14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, note
17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. note
18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
Loaded scripture!!! We’ll talk about it another day. God speaks TWICE, yet no perception untill He has to come in a dream.
Why that elongated process? UNRENEWED MIND!
I used to have a friend in the secondary school who believed that any lady that is fair in complexion is a witch.
So if the Holy Spirit is leading such a person to marry a fair lady, he will not see that leading of the Spirit because of the state of his mind.
The reason is that he has closed the eyes of his mind. Jesus reinforced this same point here:
For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, AND THEIR EYES THEY HAVE CLOSED; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
That was what happened to Apostle Peter. He had a bias and prejudice against the Gentiles.
He had not renewed his mind to the reconstituting work of the Spirit to create one spiritual family, consisting of Jews and Gentiles, so when God was trying to lead him to the Gentiles, he started arguing, saying “Not so, Lord” – Acts 10:14.
Friend, never complain that the Holy Spirit is not speaking to you. Check the state of your mind.
You will do yourself a whole lot of good by consistently hearing and acting on God’s Word.
Don’t wait until the Holy Spirit tells you to give and sow in line with Scriptures.
Don’t wait until He tells you to read your Bible and pray.
Don’t wait until He tells you to say “Sorry” when you’re wrong.
Don’t wait until He tells you to honour your Pastor.
Don’t wait until He tells you to give to your parents.
Act on Scriptural instructions; it will help you in divine guidance. And when He leads you SPECIFICALLY in any of the above-mentioned areas and in other areas, you just follow suit effortlessly.
Hearing and acting on God’s Word constantly leads to hearing the voice of God consistently.
Renew your mind and discern the voice of the Spirit.
The things of the Spirit can be that easy!
Yes they can be that simple and easy!!
Trust this is a blessing Sirs and Mas?
