43. And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44. Now His betrayer had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss,
He is the One; seize Him and lead Him away safely.”
45. As soon as he had come, immediately he went up to Him and said to Him,
“Rabbi, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
46. Then they laid their hands on Him and took Him.
70. And a little later those who stood by said to Peter again,
“Surely you are one of them; for you are a Galilean, and your speech shows it.
”71. Then he began to curse and swear, “I do not know this Man of whom you speak!”
Among the disciples of Jesus Christ was one who betrayed Him with a kiss just for money; another one denied Him with a curse, just to escape harrassment. Then, there was one who vowed never to believe He could resurrect as He had said, unless he saw an evidence. Today, children of God, disciples and followers of Christ do commit the same crime of betrayal and denial of the Master.
There is a captivating scene in the movie: “Tribulation Night”, where Rev. Nicholas who missed the Rapture was reminded of one of his atrocities by a lady he had once committed adultery with. He had offered to give the female student prostitute a ride, and had taken her to a hotel and slept with her. Afterwards, the lady discovered to her astonishment that the man she had slept with is a preacher, a resident pastor of a church and, also found out from a flyer in his Bible that he had just held a crusade somewhere. She became furious. As the man was trying to calm her down, she gave him a hot slap in the face, that staggered him back on the bed. The lady was seriously disappointed, because she had determined that she was having her last fun with her last man after which she would go and look for a man of God for spiritual help to her disgusting life. She was determining to surrender her life to Christ, if that would free her from her bondage. But, alas. She never knew she was on bed with ” a man of God”.
Instead of the man of God to win her to Christ, he had chased her back into her darkest world. She missed the Rapture too as a result of that, and had come across Rev. Nicholas, who also had lost the chance of rapturing with the saints. She rushed at him again, and gave him two hard slaps on his face and said: “I knew you would missed the Rapture. I knew you would not make it” He had betrayed Christ before a spiritually oppressed lady who was in search of who would lead her to the Savior.
A man of God was in a vestry of a church, and one of the youth leaders had come to him in the vestry to ask for an information concerning the morning service. While the youth leader was waiting for him to respond, he dipped his hand in his inner pocket to bring out an handkerchief to wipe his face, but unfortunately, a strange small gourd tied with red woven threads dropped on the floor in the sight of the youth. The man of God quickly picked it up and dipped it back in his pocket, then added with a smile at the astonished youth: “It is because of you people we venture into things as this.”
I was told of a christian senior secondary school which was bribing the government invigilators to leave the classrooms during their examinations. The invigilators would walk out of the classroom and one of the school teachers would walk inside briskly, stand before the students and run down the answers to the objective questions as fast as he could. The Students would copy down the answers as dictated by the teacher.
The christian school authority had betrayed the Christ they stood for, before those innocent students who have been sent there to learn under high spiritual environment. They have given to those children a very dangerous foundation for their future academic life.
Many christian schools have denied Christ like that, because they wanted to be regarded as highly productive schools and thereby command attentions of many parents’ children. All for money.
A young christian sister had arrived in the UK to visit a family who are ministers of the Gospel. After some times, she had asked the woman in the house, the wife of the minister of God, what she could do if she wanted to prolong her stay in the UK. And the woman had told her, she could choose to stay behind in the UK and do what others usually do. She could release her legal papers for her to work in the land. She would bear her name (her name on the papers) and work with her name. Then, she would pay back some percentage of her monthly salary.
When the christian lady was astonished at such dubious move, the woman, minister’s wife, was so light about it, saying such things were not strange in the land at all. It was a heartless betrayal of the Master.
Many years ago, my wife entered a public transport on a journey. Inside the bus was a young lady who was preaching passionately and everybody listened.
After a long convincing message of this lady, she rounded off and was about to get off the bus at the next bus-stop. She demanded for her change from the bus-conductor and the young man insisted he had given her when she paid for her fare. Then, an argument ensued. The lady went wild against the young man, raining out abusive words at him to the bewilderment of everyone in the bus. She had scandalously betrayed the Master she had just projected. Some brothers are well known for their irritability.
They are easily irritated and they are known for picking up quarrels with everybody in the office. They give them due respect, not for their enviable characters, but in order to avoid their fights. They have flagrantly sold Christ for a little pieces of silver, that hardly would anyone in their office buy Him in cheaper amount again.
These are examples of many believers who are betraying Christ for thirty pieces of silver, just as Judas did. There are believers today, whose certificates could be traced back to a foundation of falsehood. They denied Christ to sit on the exalted executive seat in the company they are today. They denied Christ to win the contract that had given them the prominence they have today. They betrayed the Master to regularly retain their position in their company. Some believers can not be trusted with money.
They would deny the Master easily.
But what did Peter do to gain back the Lord’s mercy?
72. A second time the rooster crowed. Then Peter called to mind the word that
Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.”
And when he thought about it, he wept.
He repented and wept out for His Mercy. Then, in John 21:15-20, Peter continuously confessed: “Lord, I love You!” when Jesus asked him if he truly loved Him. What is the Word of God for us this day?
if there are areas and times in our life where the Master of our Salvation had been gruesomely denied and blatantly betrayed. If we cry on unto Him for His mercy He will readily Forgive if we do if all our heart with repentant heart.
We can not continuously live in constantly betrayal and denial of The Lord and expect Him to Open Doors of Great Manifestations of elevations, Promtions, Revelations, abundance and prosperity before us.
