SEVEN ATTRIBUTES OF WISE PEOPLE!!!

– Pastor Bimbo Animashaun

Wisdom is key to success on the earth. The Bible affirms the preeminence, indispensability and majesty of wisdom:

PROVERBS 4:7
WISDOM IS THE PRINCIPAL THING; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Wisdom therefore is an ESSENTIAL; not an ACCESSORY. From Scriptures, what are the attributes of wise people?
I will only mention seven of them to maintain brevity of time.

(1) WISE PEOPLE DO MORE LISTENING THAN TALKING: Listening is a major attribute of wise men and women. They don’t talk anyhow, anywhere or anytime.
They spend more time LISTENING than TALKING, which reinforces the New Testament instruction to be SWIFT TO HEAR, AND SLOW TO SPEAK – Jam.1:19.
Talking much doesn’t make you wise; listening much does. Some people talk like parrots. They are too loquacious to discern the mind of God per time.

If you’re too lousy, you can’t really get much from the Holy Spirit. Have you seen people who came to you for counselling but they ended up “counselling” you?

Listening is key dear friends. Even great preachers and teachers of the Word who inevitably do “a lot of talking” will tell you that they spend more time LISTENING to the Holy Spirit and others to maintain their current form.

Many of them are not men of many words. They don’t talk much, but when they speak (no matter how few the words are), their words carry weight and cause the haughty to stagger.

(2) WISE PEOPLE ARE GIVEN TO DEEP REFLECTIONS: They’re great thinkers. They engage in sober reflections and do a lot of meditation.
Wise people are introspective in attitude. They’re deep thinkers. And think about this friend; DEEP REFLECTIONS BIRTH GREAT DECISIONS.

God is a deeper Thinker – Ps.92:5, and He wants us to be deep thinkers too – Josh.1:8, Ps.1:2, 1 Tim.4:15.

(3) WISE PEOPLE ARE LIFE-TIME STUDENTS: They are great learners. They learn a lot. They invest every dime and time in learning.
They learn from the wise so as to be wiser and they also learn from the fool so that they will not be like him.

Solomon the wisest man in his time was a life-time student – he learnt from people, from nature, from events, and from situations and circumstances and he also encouraged others to learn.

He learnt from real life events – Ecc. 9:11; he learnt from the fool – Prov. 24:30-34; he even learnt from the ant – Prov. 6:6-11.
There’s no end to learning. We keep learning everyday. Hear this friend; YESTERDAY YOU YEARNED, TODAY YOU LEARN, AND TOMORROW YOU EARN.

(4) WISE PEOPLE ARE PRACTICAL WITH KNOWLEDGE: Our Lord Jesus Christ defined wisdom in terms of ACTION – acting on God’s Word – Matt.7:24-25.
Wisdom is acting on knowledge. Knowledge in itself will not produce any result if it’s not acted upon.
Talk is cheap but action is key. No matter how knowledgeable you are, you will still not get much out of life if there are no channels or avenues to practicalize it.

(5) WISE PEOPLE KEEP WISE COMPANIES: This is very straightforward! Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are. Show me your friend and I can “predict” your future.
The old saying, “Birds of a feather flock together” comes to mind. The Word tells us:
PROVERBS 13:

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Wise people keep wise companies, and oftentimes THE COMPANIES YOU KEEP CAN DETERMINE THE HAPPENINGS IN YOUR LIFE.

Wise people therefore place value on like-minded friendship because it is an avenue to sharpen each other – Prov. 27:17.

(6) WISE PEOPLE HAVE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE: They’re sensitive to the feelings of other people. They don’t bruise people’s hearts and minds in a bid to promote their own dreams.
Wise people can disagree with you on some level without diminishing the value that you represent.

They have relational skills. They’re not selfish. They understand THE LAW OF DIFFERENCE, which states that people are different from each other, and as such they flow accordingly.
Wise Christians can relate with unbelievers in harmony without compromising the faith – Col.4:5.

(7) WISE PEOPLE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES: Wise people don’t procrastinate. They’re sensitive to times and seasons and take advantage of the opportunities they present – Ecc.3:1, 1 Chro.12:32.

Wise people are swift when it comes to taking advantage of opportunities without practising opportunism.
Friend, some things may be right but they may not just be perfectly fitted for the time, season or occasion.

For instance, planting is good but in agriculture, there’s a right time to plant so as to reap maximally.
The same goes for everything that we do in our daily life. You’ve got to DO THE RIGHT THINGS AT THE RIGHT TIME.

It’s untill then that you will maximize the moment and your results will come speedily without fail.
I sincerely hope that this piece will trigger the change of level you have long desired.
Have a fruitful week Sirs and Mas!!!
Grace!!!!
