“TURNING AGAINST THE PURPOSE OF HIS HEART”

Evang. Mike Bamiloye

2 Kings 7:1-2 NKJV

[1] Then Elisha said, “Hear the word of the LORD. Thus says the LORD: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.”

[2] So an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, “Look, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” And he said, “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

After the famine of the land of Samaria had gone to climax and there was no more food in the city. And people had began to eat others’ flesh, while the Syrian Army who had besieged the city had remained for a long time and no one came into the city or went out of it. When the hope of the citizens had become hopeless and the king knew not what to do again, then, the Word of the Lord suddenly came forth through Prophet Elisha:

2 Kings 7:1 NKJ
Then Elisha said, “Hear the word of the LORD. Thus says the LORD: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.'”

He had PURPOSED in His heart to favor the city of Samaria. He had decided to turn their situations around. He had made up His heart to change their situations and turn the table around after several months of languishing within the besieged walls of the city. At the climax of the famine, when there was no single food left for the masses to eat, the Lord had sent His servant to declare: 1 (50kg) bag of rice shall be sold for 1 USD, and a bag of (50kg) bag of flour shall be sold for 50cent (half a dollar) and the prices of other commodities shall crash to the barest minimum. It all looked so impossible in the eyes of man.

Then, a city official who never knew how this could be possible should have kept quiet instead of talking with his acute ignorance of the power of God. He opened his mouth and spoke:
2 Kings 7:2 NKJV
….”Look, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?”
Then, the Prophet of the Lord replied him straight away:
“In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

By early the next morning, around 5.00am, the King was called on phone that two lepers had come to report that something strange had happened to the thousands of Syrian Army at the back of the City Walls. They had all fled leaving behind all their huge stores of food and all their treasures and their tents and the mobile city they had built outside of the walls. No human being left in their tents except their food and loads and baggages.

By, 7.00am, the gates of Samaria was opened and hungry people had queued to buy rice and flour that the government had carried from the Syrian camp. Incidental, the City Official who doubted the Word of God had being appointed to supervise the selling of the food. He was trampled down by the people who were too hungry to queue. He died without eating out of the food, according to the Word of the Lord.

Zachariah, the righteous Priest of the Lord also fell into that trap of doubting the Word of the Lord too when the Lord had PURPOSED in His heart to give him a child after a very long time. When the Lord decides to do a thing. You had better kept quiet than quarrying the possibility of what the Lord said He would bring to pass against all odds.

Luke 1:19-20 NKJV
[19] And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings.
[20] But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”

Zechariah became deaf and dumb for more than 9 months for doubting the message the Lord had sent to him.
He should have kept quiet.
When the Lord sends His message through His Prophets or messengers that He wants to do a thing, however impossible you may think it is, better keep quiet if you don’t know what to say to it. It is not necessary you speak to what God had PURPOSED in His heart to do.

Isaiah 14:27 NKJV
For the LORD of hosts has purposed,
And who will annul it? His hand is stretched out,
And who will turn it back?”

No wonder multitudes of people were thronging Jesus left and right without drawing any power from Him, while a woman with the issue of blood who just touched the hem of His Garment drew power from Him for her healing, because she had faith in her heart.

I look around me and I imagine multitude of people who have DISRESPECTED AND DOUBTED THE WORD OF GOD SENT TO THEM FOR THEIR HEALING AND VICTORY.
Just imagine. the land was in famine. People were dying of hunger. God sent His Servant to tell them that He would flood the city with food, YET SOMEONE STILL SAID GOD COULD NOT DO IT, EVEN IF THE WINDOWS OF HEAVEN WERE THROWN OPEN.
THEN., THE WORD OF GOD BECAME ANGRY AT HIM AND HE WAS ISSUED A DEATH CERTIFICATE BEFORE THE FOOD ACTUALLY ARRIVED.

I look around me and I Imagine a lot of people who had DOUBTED THE WORD OF GOD SENT TO THEM FOR THEIR PROSPERITY:
A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE NOW SPIRITUALLY DEAF AND DUMB.
A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE NOW SPIRITUALLY BLIND AND LAME.
SOME PEOPLE ARE TRAMPLED UNDER FOOT OF MEN ALREADY!
Because, they doubted the Word the Lord had sent to deliver them, to heal them and to Prosper them.

TODAY, I BELIEVE EVERY WORD THE LORD IS SENDING TO ME THIS MORNING:
He said He would cancel all My Debt Overnight and I believe Him.
He said He would Heal all my Pains Overnight and I believe Him.
He said He would Complete all my Building Projects suddenly and I Believe Him.
He said He would settle all my Children and I believe Him.
He had said We would dip our hands in Money and spend for ministry and missions and I believe Him.
He said we would build the World Drama Emporium and I believe him.

May I not doubt the Word of His Promises and Covenants sent to me!
May I be empowered to believe His Word for my life all the time.
