EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION IN MINISTRY!!! (Learning To Speak Grace-filled Words)

– Pastor Bimbo Animashaun

Soundness of speech is not in the SUBJECT of communication but in the MODE of communication.

Your ability to ventilate your thoughts in a logical sequence and systematic pattern in such a way that it invigorates the weary mind is what lends credence to your greatness of speech.
In communication, it is not just about the “WHAT” but the “HOW” – the way and manner thoughts are systematically articulated.

Two speakers can imply the same thing but send different signals because of the MODE of communication.
For instance, two Pastors may want to speak to someone who needs to double up in his Kingdom service.

While the first Pastor says, screaming on the top of his voice, “Bro. You need to double up because you’re too cold. If you’re not careful, another person will take your place. So brace up and stop sitting on the fence”.
Whereas the other Pastor simply says in a low tone, “Brother, all shall be well. The Lord is your Strength. Lay aside your cares for He cares for you. And as you serve the Lord the more, you’ll see His Grace multiplied towards you. So be strong my brother”.

Now what’s the difference? MODE OF COMMUNICATION. We will bless people more if we learn HOW TO SPEAK, not just knowing WHAT TO SAY.
The New Testament teaches us to use SOUNDNESS OF SPEECH:

TITUS 2:7-8
7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
8 SOUND SPEECH, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

You see, we don’t win people to Christ by ARGUMENT and we don’t give “spiritual instructions” by AGGRESSION.
As ministers, we’ll often meet those who, out of innocence or ignorance, OPPOSE THEMSELVES, but they’re just misformed and such can be INSTRUCTED IN MEEKNESS provided they’re willing to learn and they have not become adamant and obstinate.
The Apostle Paul tells us:

2 TIMOTHY 2:24-25
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 IN MEEKNESS INSTRUCTING THOSE THAT OPPOSE THEMSELVES; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
This is one of the greatest tests of our spiritual maturity and leadership dexterity.
Learning to speak words of Grace in ministry is like apples of gold in pictures of silver – it’s such a beauty to behold!

I know a great man of God who has a record of making people LAUGH at funeral ceremonies.
Now these are the bereaved and the sympathizers, but when the man of God begins to speak, everybody starts LAUGHING.

This soundness of speech will not just come by impartation but by the training and discipline of the Holy Spirit.
Prophet Isaiah once prophesied concerning Jesus:

ISAIAH 50:4
The Lord GOD hath given me THE TONGUE OF THE LEARNED, that I SHOULD KNOW HOW TO SPEAK A WORD IN SEASON TO HIM THAT IS WEARY: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth my ear to hear as the LEARNED.
Notice that the emphasis is on “LEARNING” and also on the “HOW” of communication.
When you master this, then you’ll perpetually be a channel of blessing to those around you.

In formal ministry settings, I do teach on Homiletics and also Principles Of Public Speaking and I talk about voice modulation.
At times you just need to adopt “the right tone” to pass your message across, but all of this must be done IN THE ENERGY OF THE SPIRIT so as to minister edification.
Great and sound speech is always seasoned with Grace, for it is written:
COLOSSIANS 4:6

Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know HOW YE OUGHT TO ANSWER EVERY MAN.
On a final note, there’s always A COMMANDED BLESSING upon your life when you yield your tongue to be an instrument of lifting and edification to others, for it is written:
PSALM 45:2

Thou art fairer than the children of men: GRACE IS POURED INTO YOUR LIPS: THEREFORE GOD HATH BLESSED THEE FOREVER.
Choose to be a lifter of men and be conscious of your MODE OF COMMUNICATION.

Remember, the mouth of a righteous man is a well of life – Prov. 10:11.
Grace and peace be multiplied unto us all in Jesus’ Precious Name!
Amen!!
I hope this meets us well Sirs and Mas?
Shalom!!!
