When you pray in tongues, it is your spirit that is praying by the Holy Spirit. Hence, you make direct contact with God without any hindrance (1 Corinthians 14:14).
You speak mysteries to God that neither men nor Satan understands (1 Corinthians 14:2).
Since you are praying in the Spirit, you are praying according to God’s perfect will; and you obtain sure answers (Romans 8:27).
You edify or build up yourself spiritually a great deal (1 Corinthians 14:2: Jude 20)
You are able to worship God effectively in the Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:17).
It is the best way to let the Holy Spirit take over your tongue, hence your whole being (James 3:3-7)
Therefore, you should start taking advantage of this form of praying today. It is surely meant for you.
For the promise is unto you, and to your children and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call (Acts 2:39).
The Bible also says you can have the interpretation of what you are praying in the Spirit, if you have been praying in tongues like this before, pray today that you may be able to interpret what you are praying in and unknown language (I Corinthians 14:13). It will greatly edify and encourage you.
