A SEED OF EVIL REPERCUSSIONS

Numbers 25:11-13

11. “Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the children of Israel, because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My zeal.

12. Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace;
13. and it shall be to him and his descendants after him a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.’”

On their way to Canaan Land, in the wilderness, Israel had camped in Acacia Grove very close to the land of the idolatrous Medianites. The Lord had warned them never to have anything to do with the people of the land, never to give their sons to them or take their daughters for their sons. They were to stay clear from the people. They were never to be corrupted by the godless people of the land.

However, many of the sons of the leaders and the many of the young men left the camp to play with the ladies of the land, who made them bow to their god – Baal Poer. The Lord became angry and struck the entire camp with an affliction; then, ordered all the men to be executed. While Israel were crying in the camp and were in repentance assembly, a young man strolled into the camp with his Medianite girl-friend, introduced her to his people and took her into his father’s tent. It was a height of recklessness, a dangerous effrontery.

Then, a young man, Phinehas, son of the Priest of the land became furious at this audacity and disrespect for the presence of God. He took his spear, walked into the man’s tent, and struck the man and the lady through as they cleaved to each other in mad love.

When The Lord saw this display of zeal for The Lord God of Israel, He was happy and stayed the affliction in the camp immediately. The young son of the Priest had appeased His wrath. Furthermore, for that act of jealousy for the God of Israel, The Lord made an everlasting covenant with him and with his children and descendants after him:

Numbers 25:12-13
12. Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace;

13. and it shall be to him and his descendants after him a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.’

And that was how the zeal of Phinehas earned for his children’s children an everlasting priesthood of The Lord.

Being zealous for The Lord in the service of the Lord and serving the Lord with all your heart could mean you are provoking the covenant of God upon your children born and yet unborn. When Phinehas was faithful unto God and was jealous for the Lord God of Israel, God blessed him and made a covenant with him and his children’s children, but when GEHAZI was disobedient unto the word of the Lord’s servant, he earned a curse for himself and for his children’s children.

What does that mean to you? To me it is a frightening thing that my faithfulness unto God would surely have an impact on the lives of my children. An if I am so obstinate and disobedient to God, I am surely endangering the lives of my children.

So, your dedications and zeal in the matter of the ministry. Your sacrifices and offerings, are all instrument of provoking this transferred covenant on your children.

Numbers 16:28,31-32
[28] And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the Lord hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.
[31] And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:
[32] And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

When you read the story of the insurgency of Korah, Dathan and Abiram in the wilderness, what occurred to you? Does it occur to you that it is extremely dangerous to rise up against a servant of God who is working for God with all his heart?

When you are proving stubborn and arrogant and unfaithful before the Lord; when you join some people to slander your pastor and Leaders or you rose up to assassinate his characters for no reasons, did you have a second thought of the repercussion of its consequences upon your life, your wife and children?

When you are deliberately giving your pastor’s and leaders problems and making lives unbearable for him and trying all the time to sabotage his ministry efforts, like Korah, Dathan and Abiram did to Moses. Did you think deep of the repercussion upon your lives and children and wife or husband soonest?

Likewise, when you are so dedicated to the things of God, and very faithful to the service of God, you are only living behind and sending ahead a legacy of Bountiful Harvest and blessings for your lives and children.

Today, I pray that every move that has been moved against the will of God will receive God’s mercy and forgiveness in Jesus name.
