Can you imagine that the Pillar of Cloud and the Pillar of Fire was the One that was leading the whole pack of Israel in the wrong direction in the wilderness?
When the spies went out to spy the land, it took them forty days to and fro, but when they set out from that same spot, after they had doubted the wisdom of God, the Lord equated each day for a year and the Cloud and the Fire led them along a very long journey for forty years till they were all wasted away, leaving their children behind.
SO, GOD CAN WASTE A PERSON’S TIME AND LIFE, IF HE DOES NOT FOLLOW HIM WITH ALL HIS HEART.
Deuteronomy 2:14-15 KJV
[14] And the space in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the Lord sware unto them.
[15] For indeed the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.
BECAUSE THEY DOUBTED HIS WISDOM AND HARDENED THEIR HEART AGAINST HIS PLANS.
