“POURING THE WATERS ON ELIJAH’S HANDS”

2 Kings 3:11-12 KJV

[11] But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord , that we may enquire of the Lord by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

[12] And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the Lord is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

We came across a very significant secret of the life of Elisha that made him become who he was at the end. When the Kings of Israel, Edom and Judah were going on a battle against the land of Moab and were lost in the wilderness without any water. The King of Judah knew if they had asked from a prophet of God, he would have led them right and given them a solution.

He knew they would never have moved out for war without instructions and directions from the mouth of a Prophet of God. So he asked if they could find one around to give them direction.
“…And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.”

What a great description of a Servant? The only description they could give to him was that he “poured water on the hands of Elijah”. He served his Master. He served his food and waited on him and packed the dishes and poured water on his hands to wash his hands. And this was his regular life while Elijah was around. The statement was also an indication of Elisha’s life of service to Elijah.

When again do you pour water on someone’s hand to wash his hand?
When the hand is soiled with dirt. When both hand is dirty and there is need for someone to pour the water on the hands to wash and cleanse it. That one person who was always around to pour water on dirty hands of Elijah was Elisha.

Elisha had the water that Elijah needed to wash his dirty hands. He was not the type that run away with the cleansing water that his Master would need, and expose his Master to ridicules. His Master did not go around with dirty hands, he saw to the cleansing of his Master’s hand. He knew when his Master’s hands were dirty and he stood by him and pour water on the hands to clean it. He stood by his Master when the hands were dirty and when the hands were clean.

Elijah was a Prophet of God, but he was also a human being who could make some mistakes and get his hands soiled at times. But he had a Servant who always carry the water that cleansed it when he soiled his hands with food or with dirts. When you follow a Mentor or a Leader, bear in mind that he or she is a human being who could exhibit the traits of man unexpectedly. But many followers today, follow their leaders looking for faults and mistakes they can capitalize upon. At a little mistake of their leader, they back off and loose their heads and their hearts. They get easily disappointed at any unexpected attitudes of their Mentor or Leader. But they too are human beings. A good Follower carries Cleansing water around for cleansing of his Master’s hands.

When a Follower rebukes and derides his Master and Leader at his back for whatever reasons, such are the Followers carrying the Cleansing Water without using it on their Master’s hands. When a Follower grumbles against his leader and gathers fellow Followers against his Leader, such are Followers that carry the Cleansing Water and throws the water away to expose their Master to ridicules with his soiled hands.

DON’T FORGET THAT THE SOILED HANDS ARE NOT ONLY BY DIRTS, BUT EVEN ALSO BY HEALTHY FOOD.
Some followers grumbles and complain when their Leaders are even doing the right things. When the leader is enjoying, they grumble and oppose them, when they are suffering, they complain and oppose them.

But ELISHA WAS A GOOD SERVANT. HE CARRIED THE WATER AND POURED IT FAITHFULLY ON HIS MASTER’S HANDS.
That was his lifestyle. He did not run away with the water. he did not grumble against his Leader. He did not betray him as Judas betrayed Jesus. He did not deny him as Peter denied Jesus. He did not doubt him a bit, as Thomas doubted the Lord. He was a faithful follower of his master till he began the Last Journey to the Place of Power at the other side of Jordan.

So, desire for Power and Anointing, is not a Day’s Journey. It has to begin a way back with a life of Dedication and Service and Humility and Submission to authority.
SOME PEOPLE CAN NOT BE TRUSTED WITH ELIJAH’S ANOINTING, HOW MUCH MORE A DOUBLE PORTION OF IT.

It would take Humility to operate with a Double portion.
It would take Submissions to operate in Elisha’s Anointing.
It would take a Follower who knows how to follow a Godly man in submission, humility, focus and faith in the God of his leader, to receive the Double Portion of Anointing from God.

-May the Lord make me a Faithful Servant in His Vineyard, serving with Humility and Submission and Focus.”
