Once upon a time, I saw evangelism as something done solely by a particular group of Christians. I believed that they was a special set of believers that were called only to evangelize – thank God for spiritual growth! I know quite a number of people still think that way today, but the Bible makes us see differently.
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. – 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NIV)
From here, you can see that God reconciled us to Himself and gave everyone of us the ministry of reconciliation. So, all believer has been called to proclaim this gospel to the ends of the earth so all creation will be reconciled to God.
Here are some essential tips to remember whenever you want to evangelize:
- Your Past Doesn’t Matter
Do not let your mistakes prevent you from sharing the gospel. God calls you a new person in Christ irrespective of who you were before and what you have done before you were saved.
Some people may think that because they do not have a deep, dark past, they do not have a salvation story to share, but it does not matter. Your personal testimony with God is effective when reaching out to people because when shared it shows that the gospel is what saves.
Remember that we are all bound to die because when Adam sinned, sin entered into the world; it is a natural problem we had before an action problem. In other words, we all had a dark past before salvation, and everyone would need to trust in Jesus for them to be saved.
- Be a Good Conversation Starter
There are different captivating ways to start a fun conversations that would help your evangelism. Think about conversation starters like “What do you think happens when people die?” or “Why you think God said let there be light and still went on to create light and darkness in Genesis?” or “If you could swallow a pill that would ensure you never die or age again, would you want to?”
To help you, practice how to approach people and engage them in conversations because we all have the goal of sharing the gospel to them. Hence, think of creative and different strategies that can be used in turning hearts to the gospel.
- Be Ready to Answer Questions
If you have ever taught a child, you will have an idea of the type of tough questions they ask. In this same way, prep well before you go for evangelism and ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom to answer the questions well.
“But in your hearts, revere Christ as Lord.” Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect “–1 Peter 3:15
Prepare yourself to be able to give an answer to the questions people may have about your faith when you talk to them. You will need it. Grow in your convictions not just for other people’s sake but for your own too. In case you didn’t know, you can learn from other people and helpful resources.
- Pray
If this gospel is to prevail, it will take your commitment to preaching, resources, strategy, and prayer. Evangelism is a spiritual exercise. The lives of people depend on this truth. Take it seriously. Pray for the hearts of men.
- Make Use of Your Social Media Platforms
Social media is a great tool in this generation. So, as a creative, you should make godly content that talks about Jesus.
The media is one of the easiest ways to flood the world with the truth about God’s word. The good news is that there are different options available. Take advantage of all that you can to propagate this message.
- Be Fearless
You will me et different kinds of people with various beliefs, questions, and responses, but do not be shaken. Some people will out rightly insult you, or react in ways that would make you feel bad. But prepare your heart for any kind of response and guard your heart against ungodly thoughts.
You can also evangelize in groups if you need to. This is where a solid Christian community of people will help. You have the same goals and can spur and encourage each other.
Finally, when stepping out for evangelism, you have to be patient with yourself. If it is your first time, you should give yourself time to grow. You will get better at preaching the gospel to people.
Also, the gospel message is clear, and even though there are strategies and avenues for preaching, the message is the same. You know the message that got you saved? Preach it.
A great piece here! Thanks so much
