The Bible is very technical. The genius of God was to make the Bible accessible to all. A letter “s” made all the difference in determining Abraham’s inheritor (Galatians 3:16). And so when the Bible says, “In the beginning God created…” my brain scrambles. Why? Because it’s an unusual construct in English and a grammatical oddity in Hebrew.
The word used for “beginning” in Genesis is “B’reshit”. (John also used the word in his book). When you study the Hebrew construct it actually reads something like, “In the beginning of God created”. And so if we ask when did God create the world, the answer will be, “It was in the beginning of God created the world”. The “beginning” is thus an elongation. The world never stopped being created. The beginning never ceased. This corroborates science. The universe is still expanding, and we didn’t know until the 1920s. Yet Isaiah, Zechariah and Job wrote about it! Job lived c.2100 BC, Isaiah lived 8th-century BC, Zechariah lived 6th-century BC.
This is what Zechariah wrote: “Thus says the Lord, Who stretches out the heavens…” Zechariah 12:1.
This is what Job wrote: “Who (God) alone stretches out the heavens…” Job 9:8
This is what Isaiah wrote: “Thus says God the Lord–He Who created the heavens and stretched them forth…” (Isaiah 42:5). And then he wrote: “I am the Lord, Who made all things, Who alone stretched out the heavens…” (Isaiah 44:24). And then he doubled down: “It is God… He Who stretches out the heavens like gauze curtains and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.” (Isaiah 40:22 AMPC). That phrase “gauze curtain” is notable. When scientists want to explain gravity they use a wire mesh or gauze illustration for spacetime. See picture.
The world was created but it never stopped being created. The world has a beginning. It is a beginning that has never ceased. At some point the universe will stop expanding and reverse onto itself. This is called The Big Crunch. When that happens the prophecy of Peter concerning the end of the world would have come to pass (2 Peter 3:10). That prophecy is one of the 3 probabilities laid out in science about the end of the world.
